Why did God save Moses?
God saved Moses to rescue His people.

God saved Moses for a special purpose: to rescue His people. The calling of Moses points to a greater calling and rescue--the call of Jesus to come to earth to save God's people (all of us) from our sin. Moses and Jesus both obeyed God's commands in order to carry out His plan of salvation. Moses delivered God's people from physical captivity; Jesus delivers God's people from our captivity in sin.

Why did the wise men visit Jesus?
The wise men came to worship Jesus.

The wise men came to worship Jesus as King. Jesus is the King who will rule forever, as God promised to King David in 2 Samuel 7. Jesus is the true King who is worthy of all our worship.

Where was Jesus born?
Jesus was born in Bethlehem as God promised.

The birth of Jesus was good news! Jesus was not an ordinary baby. He was God's one and only Son, sent to earth from heaven. Jesus came into the world to save people from their sins and to be their King.

What part did Mary and Joseph have in God's plan?
God chose Mary and Joseph to be the earthly parents of Jesus, His one and only Son.

"Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel" (Isaiah 7:14).

Baby Jesus was going to be born! How exciting! Angels visited both Mary and Joseph and shared the good news of Jesus’ coming birth. Mary and Joseph believed the angels’ words and did what God wanted. The baby Jesus fulfilled Isaiah's prophecy, as well as other prophecies of the coming Savior throughout the Old Testament (Hebrew Scriptures). Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus fulfilled God's plan of redemption that God planned from the beginning of the world.

Prophets Told About Jesus' Birth

How did people know Jesus was coming?
God's prophets told people about Jesus
long before He was born.

God had a great plan to rescue people from sin. God's plan was not a secret plan. The prophets told people about God's plan. They said God would send a Messiah, Jesus! Jesus would be born into the world as a baby. Jesus would live a perfect life and die on the cross to rescue people from sin.

Why did God send Joseph to Egypt?

God sent Joseph to Egypt to save his family.

Joseph recognized that though his brothers intended evil when they sold him into slavery, God planned his circumstances for good--to establish a remnant of God's people (Genesis 45:7). Likewise, although those who crucified Jesus intended it for evil, God's plan for the sacrifice of His Son was for the good of all people (John 3:16). Through Jesus' death on the cross, God again saved a remnant of people.

Who is always with us?
God is always with us.

God sent Joseph to Egypt as a slave and blessed him, so that he rose to a position of great power. In that position, he was God's instrument for saving his family and many others in the world from death by starvation. Jesus, on the other hand, gave up His position of great power to be God's instrument for saving people. Christ's life and death made a way to save people from spiritual death, which is the penalty of sin.

Jacob's New Name

What new name did God give Jacob?
God changed Jacob's name to Israel.

Jacob’s meeting with God changed his life as reflected in his new name, Israel. Jesus came so that we might have a changed life, forgiven of sin (2 Corinthians 5:17). Jesus’ death and resurrection provided sinful people, all of us, with the way to be adopted into God’s family. When we are adopted into the family of God we also receive a new name—children of God (John 1:12)

The Stolen Blessing

What can stop God's plans?
Nothing can stop God's plans.

Jacob is a perfect example of why a Savior is needed. Like Jacob, we seek a birthright and blessing that is not ours, and we cannot lie, deceive, trick or do anything at all to get it. Instead, Jesus shared His birthright and blessing with us when He paid for our sins on the cross and gave us His righteousness.

The Promise Reaffirmed

Don't forget to "fall back" this Sunday, November 1...

How did people know God's plan?
God told people His plan.

God's wonderful plan to Abraham extended well beyond his lifetime. The plan was shared with Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob, and eventually an entire nation leading to the birth of a baby boy named Jesus. Jesus fulfilled God's plan to provide salvation and redemption for all people.

God Tested Abraham

How can we show we believe God's plan?
We obey God.

Abraham showed his faith in God when he was willing to sacrifice his son Isaac. Isaac also showed he was ready to do what his father said. This is a clear picture of God who was willing to sacrifice His only Son, and of Jesus who was willing to do what was necessary for God’s plan of salvation for us. Isaac’s life was spared because God provided a substitute. We need a perfect sacrifice as our substitute for our sin. Because of His great love for us, God provided a perfect sacrifice in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Sons of Abraham

 Who always keeps His promises?
God always keeps His promises.

This week in The Gospel Project for Kids, we will hear the Bible account of Abraham’s sons! That’s right, two sons!

Abraham and Sarah took into their own hands the fulfillment of God’s promise to bring a son into the world. God, as always, did not need their help—only their faithfulness.

God fulfilled His promise to Abraham, but only in His timing, not Abraham's. Isaac was the hope of Abraham and Sarah for a future. The ultimate fulfillment of God’s promise to Abraham is the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the hope of the world for salvation and redemption.

Why did God choose Abraham?
God chose Abraham to be part of His plan for a Savior.

God's Covenant With Abraham

When sin entered the world, God already had a plan to provide a Savior. God’s plan to provide a redeemer for His people began through a man named Abraham. God chose Abraham to be the father of the nation in which Jesus would be born. In this way, Abraham would bless all nations, as God had promised. God also saw Abraham’s faith in God’s promises and counted that faith as righteousness. It is our faith in Jesus’ perfect righteousness that brings salvation to God’s people.

Who is all-powerful?
God is all-powerful.

Job

The Book of Job speaks volumes to the problem of human suffering. It is also an important picture of how a suffering person should relate to God. Though Job sometimes doubted God, he never turned away. Job’s suffering actually brought him closer to God.

Job’s suffering and his request for a mediator give us a glimpse of our Savior, Jesus. Neither Job nor Jesus experienced suffering because they had sinned. Unlike Job, Jesus never questioned why He had to suffer. Jesus understood that we need Him to pay the price for our sin and to be our mediator before God.

What happens when people sin?
Sin separates people from God and one another.

The Tower of Babel

The account of the Tower of Babel helps us understand the devastating effects of sin. Even after God had destroyed all life on earth through the flood and graciously saved Noah's family and the animals, it wasn’t long before people disobeyed God again.

God instructed Noah to spread out and fill the earth. Instead, people decided it best to settle. Rather than bringing glory to God by following God’s plan, people decided to glorify themselves. They built a tower to make a name for themselves.

God’s plan to populate the earth following the flood could not be sidetracked. When God confused the languages of the people, they were forced to move away from one another and into people groups and nations bound by single languages. Eventually one of these nations would become God’s chosen people. Through the nation of Israel, Christ would come to save the world.
